This year, as a urban high school art teacher, I have begun spreading my obsession to a group of students who created the first high school Urban Sketcher blog on the site. We are the Ánimo Urban Sketchers. Our club has continue to develop over the school year as I taught the students about posting to the blog in-between their rigorous studies. They are learning but more importantly they are sketching and already growing in numbers for the new school year! I look forward to them joining me at Symposiums some day.
For now I am excited to visit the home of my friend Orling, who I met at the 1st symposium, and see her beautiful home city through the eyes of amazing teachers I have come to respect and admire! All this while visiting with sketching friends I get to see once a year while refueling my obsession for another school year! Who could complain?
Here are a few LA area sketches in my preferred mediums of ink and watercolor ( I decide on location what comes first but lately a bit of both.)
And the last from a cabin in the Central Coast Wine Country in Neocolor2 or as 3x Symposium friend Macia Milner-Brage told my students when she visited with them this year as a special guest : Adult crayons.

ReplyDeleteI am so excited about the growing high school sketching group! As school ended many students who had never been able to participate this year came to my classroom to ask if I was having the club again next year and could they join. Then a colleague who teaches at an Animo school in downtown LA in a very challenged neighborhood called Watts, wrote to say she had her students sketching and they might join the Animo Urban Sketchers next with a club at their site! So exciting to spread this habit to young ones!
