Symposium Participant: Luis E. Aparicio (Puerto Rico)

Hello all!  I'm really excited on attending the Symposium at the neighboring Dominican Republic; I'll be going with my wife and sketching partner Briseida M. Fernández.  I'm an architect and professor, teaching design studios and representation courses in the Graduate School of Landscape Architecture at the Polytechnic University of PR as well as in the Department of Industrial Design at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico.

After years of working mostly with digital media I have fallen in love again with sketching.  I've been sketching almost daily for the last year and a half, enjoying the process and trying to capture the energy of the subjects.  I almost invariably sketch on location, and like experimenting with different media such as graphite, ink, watercolor, markers, colored pencils, charcoal and sometimes even with unorthodox media such as coffee and wine.

My first language is Spanish, but I speak fluent English as well, so I'd gladly serve as a translator for any of you while in Santo Domingo.

¡Hasta luego!
Luis

  2. Hey Luis,

I enjoyed the fact that you sketched the castle from my neck of the woods, Orlando. I'm Thor and I'll be teaching a workshop called "Capturing the Event." I'd love to get several Santo Domingo papers to look for any local events going on that week. Curious about nightlife after the days workshops as well. Would like to meet you the first day to see if you can find anything. Since I don't speak Spanish, you're help would be invaluable. If you're interested, let me know.

    1. Thor, remind me around June to look for events for July. It is still too early to know what will be going on in those symposium nights, when days get closer I'll make sure to have you a list of events, but just to let you know, there are several bars around the colonial zone with live music for sure, like Casa de Teatro (http://casadeteatro.com/)

  6. Great work Luis, I can't imagine I'll be keeping up with Thor in the evenings after sketching all day, but I'll give it a good try. The symposium is going to be awesome. As I ses the quality of work, like yours. I'm glad I'm not an instructor as I would be very intimidated.

    1. ¡Gracias Jorge!
