Symposium participant: Jorge Royan (Buenos Aires)

Hello. My name is Jorge Royan, and I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with my wife and children.
I am an architect and photographer, and only by chance I got to sketch again after 30 years. First working 20 years in my profession, moving blueprints and worksheets from here to there but sketching little.  After that, 10 years traveling and doing photo work (www.royan.com.ar).
But, as often happen, serendipity plays an important role in life. Last year family matters kept me from traveling and had to stay at home. At the same time, Alex Sahores, an RA USK member invited me to sketch in a cold afternoon, and there and then it was all back.
I decided that instead of moving abroad with a camera I would spend the next year learning (how not to ruin my drawings with) watercolors. I have never done this, and it has been a ride!. Now, 10 months after trying my hand at this new game, the real test and thrill comes about: USK#3.
Some members of USK were really helpful and answered many questions I had (still have a lot!!…) Thank you, Nina, Luis & Wil.
I draw on Moleskines or 17x24 200g Canson paper depending on the situation. And when I can’t draw in the streets (Buenos Aires is not a safe city nowadays) I compose freely just for practise. I even put together a blog not long ago, where I try to describe my progress (really, a catharsis)
I am very happy I will meet all you guys there. Till then.

  1. Hi Jorge. Great sketches - you're certainly not 'ruining' them these days, that's for sure! Looking forward to sharing Santo D. with you x

Y... me encanta tu trabajo! Nos vemos en julio.
