Important info for the Architecture Workshop and more!

I cant believe how close the symposium is getting now... under two weeks till I leave and start my 30 odd hour journey.

 Important information for the Architecture: Personal Viewpoints workshop that Frank Ching and I will be running
Our workshop is based around the cathedral, Santa Maria de Menor in Parque Colon.
Whilst there is a lot to draw on the outside it would be best for everyone to go inside - particularly as the front courtyard of the cathedral is only accessible via the inside. Admission is free but dress standards apply - it is not permitted is going inside in shorts or anything above your knees and the shoulders need to be covered. So please dress appropriately for our workshop to get the most of it! 


Like Nina, I have been having fun in the last few months trying new ways of sketching architecture and I am FULL of lots of ideas (too many!) which I am sure will only increase during the symposium.
 
 As usual, just before a big trip (any other country is a big trip from Australia!) I don’t seem to get out sketching as much as I would like. However a few weeks ago I did have a few sketching outings. One lunchtime I sat in the sun for about half an hour and sketched three different versions of a wonderful concrete brutalist building near my work.

This building has special significance for me as it was somewhere my dad worked when I was about 5. It was a one of the first computer centres in Sydney and has a number of FLOORS for the computers (without windows).

I have been enjoying re-discovering my pentel pocket brush lately – I use it very quick and live with the consequences. I am also trying to mix up my colours.
 
 I also got out for an afternoon sketching in the historic Rocks area. I got into my non-stop sketching mode (like I do when I am travelling) and as I was sketching mainly on loose sheets of paper seemed to do more than usual (don’t have to wait for one to dry before starting the new one)!?! I was racing against the light (we are in the middle of winter down here in Sydney at the moment) and seeking the area that would receive the sunlight for the longest. Here is the collection of my afternoon sketching!

The reason I went into the downtown area that day was because there was a light and sound festival one – called Vivid. So of course I was determined to do some sketching... The Opera House is always a centrepiece of the light displays... So I did a number of sketches of it during the day (the winter sun made the famous shells golden in colour) and then one of night when the lights came on.
