Well I am here in Santo Domingo

Not sure, but I might be the first sketcher to arrive 3am this morning (Friday). I had a long 33 hour journey to get here but despite the lack of sleep during the last 48 hours decided to get out this morning... The sun and exercise is the best thing for jetlag even though eye hand coordination while sketching is sometimes challenging.

I headed straight for the cathedral and found a nice shaded bench for a quiet warmup. Soon I was totally surrounded by kids who were talking to me in Spanish and broken English. It was so much fun but not what I had intended. I then went inside the cathedral and did another quick sketch in peace and quiet.

It is nice and hot and humid here and lots to sketch....its a great city!! And I am so excited in anticipation of all the other USkers arriving.

Safe travels everyone - see you soon!!!

  1. You are the early bird! I will arrive on Tuesday, mid-day and look forward to meeting you. I hope those kids didn't steal anything...did they?

    1. Oh yeah, I read somewhere that long pants are required to get into the cathedral...I do not want to pack long pants...can you confirm, one way or the other??

    2. Jim, I recommend pants...they will be more culturally appropriate. :)

  3. Jim. You must have long pants to get into cathedral and I strongly recommend that everyone does come inside as it is the only way to access the front and the side. Everything is close so easy to pop back to hotel to change. See you soon!!! Liz
