Capturing the Event

Hello! I am Thomas Thorspecken, (aka Thor) and I'm pleased to have a chance to share my thoughts about "Capturing the Event" with you in Santo Domingo. I'm preparing small information packets for folks that attend the workshop. This page shows what supplies I carry around with me wherever I go.

Everything fits neatly in the shoulder bag and then I latch the chair over the bag. Even when I'm going somewhere that I think will have seating, I still find a use for the chair. Don't feel that any supplies or colors are required. I'm just showing you what I use, your mileage may vary.

A large gathering of artists on the streets of Santo Domingo is an event in itself, but I will discuss how to use social media and other sources as a way to decide what events need to be sketched and when. My work involves my going daily to, theaters, bars, festivals, and workshops to report on the Arts and Culture scene in Orlando Florida. By connecting with people from all around town through my sketches, I am gradually helping build a sense of community. Perhaps when you return home from the Urban Sketching Symposium you can use mainstream and social media to help you get out into the community every day. The main thing is to schedule enough time every day to get a sketch done and to share the story with others. Hope to see you in Santo Domingo!
